- The 13th EISCAT Workshop and the first part of the EISCAT Radar School will be held in Mariehamn, in the beautiful archipelago of the Åland Islands in the south-west of Finland. The second part of the school will take place after the workshop at the Sodankylä EISCAT site in Northern Finland.

- There will be a total solar eclipse on August 1 whose track will pass north of Svalbard and the EISCAT Svalbard Radar

50 years of incoherent scatter radar today!
- 50 years ago today, Ken Bowles made the first recordings of incoherent scatter from the ionosphere following the suggestion of Bill Gordon that the return should be detectable. Bill Gordon went on to built Arecibo and Ken Bowles built Jicamarca.
