End of one-year IPY run at the ESR
Document Actions
This evening, at 1900 UT 29 February 2008, we turned off the Svalbard Radar at the end of the International Polar Year run. We will continue in the second year with runs every two weeks coordinated with the other high-latitude radars, but this was a momentous moment and the end of a unique and amazing effort by the Svalbard staff and their helpers.
For the first time in a year, we turned off the main switches, turned off the lights, and all sadly walked away into the snow.
