EISCAT will send a message to the stars

On 12 June 2008, the EISCAT Svalbard Radar will be used to transmit a 30 sec advert towards a star system in the constellation Ursa Major
Doritos UK has approached EISCAT to transmit an advertisement to the stars. The advertisment will be created by the public through a competition (see www.doritos.co.uk).
The star system, 47 UMa, is more than 40 light years distant so it may be some time before a reply is received :-)
