The EISCAT radars use special hardware developed for ESA to monitor space debris passing throgh the radar beams. Data collected during the IPY long run is providing new insights into the behaviour and dispersal of space debris using measurements of the debris field created by an anti-satellite missile test conducted by China just pior to the start of the IPY.
